Kirsten Nash
Author/Composer

A veteran of the Canadian music industry, Kirsten has been an active live and studio singer, saxophonist, composer and author for over 20 years. In that time she has toured, recorded or jammed with diverse artists such as the R&B Allstars, Long John Baldry, and Alfie Zappacosta to Spencer Davis, Steven Stills, Boz Scaggs, Rita Mc Neil and Cher, winning the CARAS West Coast Music award in 1988 for Reed Player of the Year.

In 1997 she had her first rock opera "Alice in Modernland" workshopped off-Broadway in New York, with cast members from the Broadway productions of Rent, Smoky Joe's Café, and Little Shop of Horrors.

In October 2000, Kirsten staged "Aice in Modernland" in San Diego at the Sledgehammer Theatre under the direction of Kirsten Brandt, earning a "Critic's Choice" from the San Diego Tribune for it's five week run. Kirsten is grateful to be working with Kirsten Brandt again to make her latest dream come true, and will be mounting her newest work, "The Bird and the Waterfall". from July 14-16, 2005 at the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver.

Kirsten Brandt was the Artistic Director of Sledgehammer Theatre in San Diego, CA from 1999-2005 where she has directed 15 theatrical events including the world premiere of Kirsten Nash’s Alice in Modernland. She has directed for The Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Sierra Rep, Diversionary Theatre, UCSD’s MFA program, The FritzBlitz, Playwrights Project, New Dramatists, NYU Tisch School of Drama, and A.S.K. Theatre Projects in Los Angeles. Brandt is the recipient of numerous awards for her direction including a Backstage West Garland Award and two San Diego Critics Circle Awards.

Michael Creber (Musical Director, piano) is one of the West Coast's most sought-after musicians both on stage and in the recording studio. He is a Grammy-nominated, Juno Award-winning keyboardist, composer and producer who has performed and recorded with a long list of artists including the Rankin Sisters, Raffi, k.d. lang, The Irish Rovers, Charo, David Foster, Shirley Bassey, Powder Blues, Charlotte Diamond, Jim Byrnes, Dee Daniels, Kate Hammett-Vaughn, Connie Kaldor, Norman Foote, Valdy, Lee Aaron, Cyndi Lauper, Edith Wallace and Shari Ulrich among many others. Shelley’s performance credits include the role of “Rumpelteazer” in the national touring company of CATS and “Alice” in ABC-TV’s Bye Bye Birdie. She was also recently featured in the ensembles of Evita and My Fair Lady at the Arts Club Stanley Theatre. As a choreographer and instructor, Shelley has had 15 years of experience working for several Lower Mainland dance studios and is a busy guest teacher for local and international courses. Choreographic credits include film and TV projects; numerous fashion and awards shows; eight years as Resident Choreographer for Uncle Randy Productions; Pal Joey for Studio 58 at Langara College; West Side Story and Little Shop of Horrors for TUTS; motion capture choreography for Mattel's "Barbie" movie, The Princess and the Pauper and most recently, co-director for Applause Musicals in Concert’s production of On The Town. Shelley is the tap and jazz instructor for Capilano College’s new Musical Theatre diploma programme.

Shawna performs, teaches dance, and choreographs for many schools and production companies around the Lower Mainland. Choreography credits include: Cabaret, Salute To Broadway, Charlie Brown, Grease, Pirates Of Penzance, Annie, Joseph, Oliver, and Smile. Shawna is thrilled to me working on a new and creative project; assisting Shelley is one of her favorite things to do, having worked on many U.R.P. productions with her. She has also assisted Jeff Hyslop with Joseph at T.U.T.S. and is looking forward to working with him again this fall when she will be performing in another Vancouver original musical, Alley Cats at the Vogue Theatre. Shawna recently performed as Adelaide in Guys And Dolls and will be seen next as Nickie in Sweet Charity, this August at the Presentation House.

Jesse is a recent graduate from the school of Fine Art at the University of British Columbia. He has designed for several theatrical events, corporate events and even a few parades. Jesse is also the frontman for the emerging metal band Antiquus, and the author of an original new role playing game called Pangea.

Philomena is very excited to be working on this production with Show ‘n Tale Productions. She began stage managing while completing her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, Kingston. After taking a detour to pursue teaching and start a family, Philomena returned to theatre. Her recent credits include Songs for a New World (Feisty Fairy Productions), Imagine 2010 (VANOC), and Jesus Christ Superstar (Uncle Randy Productions). Philomena would like to thank her husband, Rob for all of his support and encouragement.

Danny has been performing most of his life and has had many highlights throughout his career. Some of his favorites are: North American Premiere Cast/Pre Broadway Touring Cast of Mamma Mia!, Top 30 finalist in CTV’s Canadian Idol, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Ren in Footloose, Danny Zuko in Grease, Man 1 in Songs for a New World., and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Danny is now focusing on his songwriting and has recorded his first full length album.

A triple threat performer and songwriter, Will is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. At ten, he sang with the BC Boys Choir at venues across the nation. At fourteen, he was a winner of the North Shore Song Search. Will has performed in numerous original cabaret shows including An Evening with Will at the Silk Purse and showcases at Park Royal Mall and Ironworks. At fifteen, he became the youngest artist ever accepted into New Music West. Most recent credits include Stars of Tomorrow at the New York P.L. Theatre, and Harmony Hospital (Off-Off Broadway) in New York. T.V. credits include “City Pulse”, “Ricky Lake” and CTV’s “Canadian Idol.” Will is a proud recipient of the 2003 James A. Inkster Leadership Award, the West Vancouver Care Centre Musical Theatre Scholarship, and two AMDA National Scholarships. A big fan of Kirsten Nash, Will is trilled to be part of this production!

Lauren, originally from Salt Spring Island, is both a teacher and professional actor here in Vancouver. Lauren's had way too much fun on stage; some of her faves being Terrible Girls (Walking Fish Festival), Funny Girl (Arts Club), The Fantasticks (Quintessence), Ant and the Grasshopper (Kaleidoscope), Imaginary Invalid (Graffiti Theatre), SEX: The Musical (Belfry Theatre), and a national tour with the Story Theatre Company.

Lauren is a recipient of the 2005 Best Newcomer of the Year Ovation Award.

Joani has been wowing audiences as a singer, musician and entertainer for many years, performing on T.V., radio, concert and theatre stages, and in nightclubs. As one of Vancouver's top studio singers, Joani's powerful voice has been heard on albums by some of the music industry's most popular artists such as Cher, David Bowie, INXS and Jon Bon Jovi, as well as on countless commercial jingles. Her live projects range from theatre (A Mid-70s Night’s Dream for Jupiter Productions at Quaaout Lodge November 2004/ March 2005) to a busy schedule touring with her a cappella group the Euphorics or rocking with her band “Joani Bye and the Homewreckers”.

An avid singer, songwriter, and music teacher, he has performed for such companies as Gateway Theatre, Skycorner Productions, TUTS, Footlight Theatre, and Uncle Randy Productions. Past credits include Jackson in “Pump Boys and Dinnettes,” Peter in “Company,” Reuben in “Joseph,” Ozzie in “On the Town.” In addition to performing, Chris also teaches voice and has been musical director for Footlight Theatre for their last four shows. He is pleased to have the opportunity to work with such a talented group of performers. Enjoy the show!

Kiara is a very versatile performer whose career began at the young age of 2 giving recitals to her family and friends atop of her fireplace mantle. In her youth she began singing and studying ballet, tap, jazz and musical theatre which provided her the opportunity to perform in several competitions across Canada. She continued her studies in Sandiego, Ca and performed lead roles in several musicals such as “42nd Street, Hello Dolly, A Chorus Line, West Side Story, the Fantasticks and the list goes on. She resides in Vancouver and continues to perform, choreograph, adjudicate and teach her love of the performing arts to her many students.

Steve Maddock works as an actor, singer and music educator, covering numerous styles and genres along the way. Some recent theatrical ventures include Songs For A New World, The Fantasticks, Carousel, and two lengthy runs of My Fair Lady at the Arts Club. On the concert stage, he performs as a jazz, pop and classical vocalist in both solo and choral settings. Steve teaches voice at Capilano College and is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician.

Donya is very happy to be part of this show! Were it not for a conversation at the cast party of “Saturday Night”, she might have been in the audience rather than on the stage – Thanks Chris! Some of Donya’s favourite roles include: Sally Bowles in Cabaret (DSRP and Viva Musica, Kelowna), Phantom in The Rocky Horror Show (Arts Club), The Mute in The Fantasticks and Squeaky Fromme in Assassins (both Quintessence). Donya spends most of her time teaching voice for “A Little Knight Music”, the company run by herself and her husband, Scott Knight.

Marcus Mosely was introduced to the Vancouver stage community via the Arts Club production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’”. He went on to star the AC production of “Black and Gold Revue”. Marcus then wrote, directed and starred in “It’s Time to Sing” a chronology of African American Gospel Music from slavery to present day… For which he received a nomination for a Jessie Richardson award for Best Performance in a Musical. Marcus toured for 15 months with the Livent production of “Show Boat”. Marcus has released two CDs and has two more in production. He is presently “Artist in Residence” at Christ Church Cathedral and is Co-Director of the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir. For more info. After graduating form Sheridan College in Ontario, Deanna has performed in many different venues across Canada and the continent. Some highlights include World Premiers of Summer Garden and Robin Hood: The Musical. Also Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Nunsense 2, Sex and Politics, Blue Champagne, 12 Angry Men. She was a featured performer for Emmy Award winning producer Anita Mann aboard Holland America Cruises and most recently, Lead singer for Earth to Doris.

Madeleine enjoys singing, piano, ballet, tap, and hip-hop. She recently performed at Capilano College in Pure Vocal Studios' "A Vocal Showcase". At the Pacific West Festival of the Performing Arts this spring, Madeleine won two gold medals in the Comedy and Ballad sections as well as the "Laughter for All" award for Musical Comedy and a bursary for "Most Entertaining Performer (Broadway Musical)".

Madeleine’s television credits include cartoons "Yakkity Yak" and "Being Ian" and the television series "The Collector".

Nicholas started dancing Hip Hop at the age of 7, now 11 years old has performed in many dance competitions and productions. This past year Nicholas joined a musical theatre class, which he performed in a skit, called “Blow Gabriel Blow”. He actively participates in school plays, choreographing his own dance routines. One of Nicholas most memorable dance productions was performing in “All Aboard” in Disneyland Park, California with his dance school.” The Bird and the Waterfall” is Nicholas’s first Musical theatre production and he is very excited. He sends a special thank you to Kirsten Nash and his musical theatre teacher Shelley for making this wonderful opportunity happen.

Colin is currently enrolled in Cap College's Musical Theatre Program. He played the role of Jack in their spring production of, Into the Woods. Colin would like to thank his teacher, but more importantly his friend, Mrs. Bell for exposing him to this new and exciting element of his life by casting him as Seymour Krelbourn in Alpha Secondary's highschool showing of Little Shop of Horrors. Nicol started dancing twelve years ago and at eighteen, is now teaching her passion for dance to others. She is attending Simon Fraser University where she is working towards her Bachelors degree in Communications and Sociology. Nicol's credits include "Joseph"(URP) and more recently "Jesus Christ Superstar"(URP). She is very excited to be able to work with such an amazingly talented cast and production team. She has also hosted “Miss Canada Teen Global” for 2 years with Global TV’s Steve Darling. Good to be back on the West Coast! Vincent has spent the last two years in Toronto where he just closed the 5 year run of Mammia Mia! Vencent's latest gig was performing in chaps and a Speedo for Fashio Cares with Pam Anderson and Jan Arden. Heather Weglo is currently a grade twelve student at Centennial High School. Heather has been dancing for the past thirteen years at Darcelles Dancers and her favorite types of dance are jazz, lyrical, ballet, pointe, and musical theatre. She was involved in The Magic Of Christmas show in December 2004.

A graduate of the music program at UBC, Sylvia splits her time between performing, Voice-Over work and teaching. Theatre/performance highlights: The "Acid Queen" (Tommy) "Ellie Greenwich" (Leader of the Pack) Carole King's Tapestry, "The Wicked Witch of the West" (The Wizard of Oz) "Sister Amnesia" (Nunsense) "Miss Stacy" (Anne of Green Gables), "Tina" (Tony & Tina's Wedding), lead vocalist with the 15th Field Royal Canadian Artillery Big Band, the du Maurier International Jazz Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Toronto's Ashkenaz Festival with Klezmer-fusion band Olam. In 1998 Sylvia recorded her debut CD with Olam, entitled "Foreign Dreams", which earned her two West Coast Music Award nominations. As a Voice-Over actor, Sylvia has provided animated voices for over 20 cartoons, including Inspector Gadget, X-Men, Sitting Ducks and EA Games. Sylvia is the founder and Artistic Director of Pure Vocal Studios where she provides singing and performance instruction to aspiring singers, actors and dancers in preparation for competitions, auditions and performances. Sylvia is also on faculty at Capilano College as a Private Music Instructor in the Theatre Arts Department.
